If you are looking for an easy to make dessert, this Clafoutis Aux Pomme apple dish is just the ticket. The result will make you look like a dessert pro. It is both simple and elegant and it's a great dessert to make around the holidays. Everybody loves the smell of apples and cinnamon baking in the oven. A clafoutis is likened to a pancake rather than a cake.
CLAFOUTIS AUX POMME
3 cups tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced to 1/4-inch thick
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup Calvados or apple brandy (optional)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1/3 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla
2/3 cup all purpose flour
Confestioners' sugar
Heavy cream (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350-degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Saute the apples in large skillet in the hot butter or margarine until lightly browned. Add the Calvados (apple brandy), cinnamon and 1/3 cup sugar.
3. Place the milk, the second 1/3 cup sugar, eggs, vanilla and flour in a blender or use a hand mixer to blend on high for one minute.
4. Spread the apples in an 8-cup buttered baking dish or 12 inch pie plate. Pour batter over apples and bake 1 hour.
5. Serve warm sprinkled with Confectioners' sugar and whipped cream. Yields: Approximately 8 servings.
This dessert will be just as tasty without the Calvados brandy if you choose not to use liquor but I like making this dessert in its traditional form. Enjoy!
