A fruit burrito can make for the perfect addition to breakfast, lunch, or dinner especially after enjoying a spicy Mexican dish. Use flour or whole wheat flour tortillas and fill them with fruits such as apples, blueberries, cherries, peaches, or strawberries and dust with powdered sugar or a combination of sugar and cinnamon.

In addition to fruits, some of the fillings you may want to use inside your dessert burritos include cream cheese, yogurt, heavy whipping cream, pudding, and peanut butter.

White, granulated sugar and brown sugar along with butter and margarine can also be used for making the most incredible tasting fruity burritos. You will also want to use ingredients like vanilla or maple syrup for adding more flavors to your burritos.

To make a quick snack from fresh fruits, first spread creamy peanut butter on top of flour tortillas then fill with fresh fruits including bananas, blueberries, peaches, and strawberries. Drizzle vanilla flavored yogurt or pudding on top of the fruits, fold the tortillas then seal the edges with some peanut butter and enjoy.

If you like cream cheese, use it instead of peanut butter to make a fruity burrito then top with strawberry or blueberry jam and thin slices of kiwi.

Mexican Apple Burritos Recipe
What You Need
  • 1 large can apple pie filling
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 6 count package flour tortillas
  • Cooking oil, your choice
To make the sauce:
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar, loosely packed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 ounces brandy, or to taste
  • 6 scoops vanilla ice cream
How to Make It
In a mixing bowl, combine the apple pie filling with the sugar and cinnamon.

Place a dollop of the mixture in each flour tortilla. Lightly wet the edges of the tortilla, roll up, and seal.

Use enough cooking oil to just cover the bottom of a frying pan and heat over medium to high heat.

Deep fry each burrito until brown then place on paper towels to absorb excess oil. Cover with another layer of paper towels to keep warm.

While the burritos are frying, prepare the sauce by combining the brown sugar, water, and a pinch of salt in a saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil and then simmer for 3 minutes, longer if you want thicker syrup.

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water then add to the saucepan. Cook the mixture until it thickens.

Remove the sauce from the heat and add 2 ounces of brandy or to taste.

Spoon the sauce over the Mexican apple burritos then top each with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
